In Dior’s first episode of its new digital series, Dior Skincare Talk, the Brazilian model, activist and businesswoman is joined by beauty experts to discuss the ways to lead a healthy lifestyle.
At 40, Gisele Bündchen, who is the face of Dior’s Capture Totale skincare line, looks better than most 30-year-olds do. Sure, you could probably argue and say that it’s credited to her amazing Amazonian genes, but as the saying goes, you’ve got to nourish to flourish. And this is something Gisele definitely does on the daily with holistic rituals and a wholesome diet.
In this episode of the Dior Skincare Talk hosted by American journalist Phillip Picardi, she talks to six other industry experts, including renowned facialist Joanna Czech, functional medicine nutritionist Rose Ferguson and micro-nutritionist Valérie Espinasse about maintaining good mental and physical well-being. Looking absolutely radiant with gorgeous bronzed skin, complemented by luscious golden locks, Gisele starts the session from Tampa, Florida, where she’s just moved to, with a breathing exercise. Read on for the best bits we’ve listed out for you.
Gisele on keeping centred in these worrying times
“Waking up early in the morning before sunrise is essential to me because it’s the time when everything is quiet. No one needs me – the dogs don’t need to be fed and the kids aren’t around. So it’s just my time and that’s when I get to meditate and sit for 30 minutes. Usually by seven o’clock when everyone is up and ready, I’m ready and I feel like I’ve nourished myself. I feel like my tank is full. I’m a better mom, a better wife, a better person because I’ve taken the time to take care of myself.”
Gisele on her beauty secrets
“I don’t think it’s one thing, right? It’s so many things. Beauty is not only what we put on our skin, it’s also how we nourish our soul. What kind of materials are we reading, what kind of conversations are we having, where are we directing our energy? Where your energy goes is what grows. We’ve got to feed our mind, our body, and spirit. And the combination of all of it together is what makes us feel better. And if we feel better, we look better!”
Joanna on her skincare philosophy
“Respect, support and protect – that’s the most important thing regarding skin, (how you treat) yourself and currently (how you should be) thinking about other people in the world. If we pay attention to it, then all is going to be good. Regarding skincare, I don’t jump into trends, I believe in clean science and amazing ingredients.”
Rose on beauty from within
“What you put in your body is what you show on the outside. It’s also about what you’re absorbing. You can put in really good food and supplements but if you’re stressed and not getting enough sleep and your gut isn’t working very well, then you’re not absorbing it. And when you’re not absorbing it, it’s not working for you. I’m very keen on fats – good fats. They really help the membrane of your cells; if your membrane is healthy it’ll be plump, and then your skin will look plumper.”
Valerie on the best skincare diet
“To have the best diet for healthy skin, you need to consume seasonal foods like fruits and vegetables with different colours (as they) bring different kinds of antioxidants that prevent ageing. We also need to eat fatty acids every day from vegetable plants like olive oil and seeds like chia seeds, or nuts like almonds to have glowing skin. In fact, we must drink two litres of water per day because the levels of water in our skin decreases as we age and we need to have the optimal level of water in the skin. Water is so important!”
