You don’t need to buy expensive products all the time. Maybe not even at all. Just find what works best for you!
What’s your skin type? We’ve asked many women this question before and the regular answers are combination or sensitive skin. It’s important to know that everyone’s skin behaves differently. In fact, your skin will continue to change as you grow older, so there’s never just the one right type of skincare product that will work for every stage of your life. Hence, categorising and knowing how your skin behaves will help you fine-tune your product selections.
Now here’s the truth: it’s not exact science. You don’t need an expert to help you with finding the right serum or cream. Although the help won’t hurt. It’s a matter of paying attention to your skin and realising what works and what doesn’t. A good skincare routine is really the base of great skin. And with great skin as your canvas, it’s pretty hard to mess up your makeup. Best of all, you might not even need to put on makeup when you go out cos of how confident you feel with your bare skin!
With that being said, here are two skincare ranges for different skin types that we recently tested and have thoughts about:
For combination to normal skin
If you’ve not heard of SAFI before, here’s what you need to know. This homegrown brand conforms to the Syarak law and is certified Halal by Jakim. Although it’s steeped in muslim traditions, the brand has a modern approach to skincare and it’s apparent in the Hydra Glow range – a line that provides instensive moisturising. It’s infused with three ultra-hydrating ingredients at its heart; fermented rice boosts the skin’s radiance and translucency. Vitamin B retains moisture and relieves skin dryness and hyaluronic acid effectively locks in moisture and improves elasticity. The line offers a full range of products including a cleanser, toning essence, serum, moisturiser and mist, which are lightly fragranced and ranges from RM16.90 to RM59.
Verdict: The cleanser is a bit foamy, thus slightly drying on the skin. But if that doesn’t bother you, then it’s actually pretty decent. The rest of the products more than made up for it and did a great job at maintaining skin’s hydration. Plus, the line feels really on par with South Korean skincare.
For sensitive skin
Speaking of South Korean skincare, introducing Cellapy, a Korean dermatologist brand that just recently made its way to our shores. Formulated with in-depth research and non-harmful ingredients, its products aim to make effective skincare solutions accessible locally. Its Cellapy A.Repair range is particularly suitable for sensitive skin as it contains high amounts of antioxidants for skin regenration that helps soothe skin sensitised by external agressors. The products are priced between RM89.90-RM149.90.
Verdict: You’ll be happy to know that the range does not contain any skin-irritating ingredients and has achieved the EWG Green Rating. Following a month’s trial, we’re happy to report that skin feels calm and soothed after every usage, espeically with the A.Repair Cream. Extra points for its simple and elegant packaging.
