Find out how these trendy beauty hubs adapt to the Recovery Movement Control Order in the new normal.

Living in a post-pandemic world is a relatively new and an alien concept to many, especially when social and physical distancing becomes the new norm. But you also need a moment to relax, unwind and in the holy words of Donna Meagle and Tom Haverford from ‘Parks and Recreation’, “You need to treat yo’ self!” The first blowdry bar in Malaysia, COCOdry, and one of the city’s best nail salon, Jac & Ivy Nail Spa are just some beauty hubs that are taking precautionary measures in an effort to safely provide services like manicures, facials and blowdry treatments during the RMCO. Here’s how they do it!

Safety first

“Sanitisation of equipment and space is not only done every single day, but also each time a customer leaves his or her seat. During these times, providing our clients the peace of mind is paramount,” says May Chee Kim, founder of COCOdry. In following the SOPs provided by the government, COCOdry has included face shields, face masks and hand gloves in their dress guideline, which is similar to the requirements at Jac & Ivy Nail Spa.

The two salons will be prioritising social distancing by limiting the number of customers coming in for an appointment with a maximum of 4 customers at the former and 6 clients at the latter. Like other premises, a screening will be carried out before you enter these beauty parlours.

Tip! It’s best to book an appointment instead of walking-in for a session. Don’t forget to bring your own face mask!

Beauty needs

During the Movement Control Order (MCO), our customers have reached out to us for product recommendations. That’s when we learnt that many of our customers were having scalp issues. Once MCO was lifted, we introduced COCO Scalp Treatment to address the customers’ concerns,” says Kim.

In regaining the momentum of the old normal, Jac & Ivy Nail Spa continues their services and ensures that customers are experiencing the best manicures and nail art by their well-trained staffs in a private and minimalist ambience. The nail parlour also offers a dedicated kid-friendly nail spa for both moms and kids to enjoy a much needed pampering session!

Pampering rediscovered

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a learning curve for beauty businesses and startups like COCOdry as they quickly evolve with the times. Kim says, “Every crisis is an opportunity in disguise. MCO was a great opportunity for me to learn, pivot and start our e-commerce store. Change is the only constant in life and I’m really grateful and blessed that the response was even better than we expected.”

For Jac & Ivy Nail Spa, it’s about being consistent and meeting all the requirements of MCO/RMCO guidelines as they put health as a top priority to, “Protect the staffs, protect the customers, protect your family and your business,” in the new normal.
