A starring role in an upcoming TV drama led to fashion model Nia Atasha’s new edgy haircut!
We’ve all been there. Whether it’s career promotion, a painful breakup or it’s a new year, we use these reasons and more to change up our look! For 24-year-old fashion model and actress Nia Atasha, it was the offer to star in a local TV drama that encouraged her to make the big chop to play her character!
“I’ve always wanted my hair short for a long time. I’ve had my hair short for most of my life and only started to keep my hair long when I started modelling. Plus, my modelling agency was against the idea of my hair going short (laughs),” says Nia. Now, she stuns in a cropped mullet style that’s giving off a ‘business in the front and party at the back’ vibe.
What inspired your new look?
“I knew I wanted my hair to be short short, edgy but also fashun. So I immediately got in touch with my hairstylist Miedy Daniel and told him what I wanted and all he had to do was do his magic. It was really my hairstylist who was the reason behind this specific hairstyle.”
As a model, how does your profession affect your decisions in making major changes to your look?
“Being in an industry where your physical appearance matters a lot, it has greatly influenced how I carry or put myself out there. But I don’t let it dominate my life or all of my decisions.”
What is your haircare routine like and how has it changed after getting the new haircut?
“Nothing much has changed honestly. I don’t really have a haircare routine because all I do is wash and blow-dry every day. Now with shorter hair, I just spend less time shampooing and blow drying!”
How would you describe the style of your new haircut and how do you style it?
“It’s definitely the modern day mullet! This is the fun part about getting a new haircut for me. I love experimenting with my hair and looks so I would try to switch it up with styling products or headwear.”
What is a must in your haircare routine and what do you avoid?
“A must would be… shampooing. I have photoshoots almost every single day, so I get a lot of hair products in my hair. I don’t think there’s anything I’m avoiding for now. Some of the brands I am a huge fan of would be Pantene, L’ Oreal and Schwarzkopf Professional’s OSiS+!7.”
Do you have any beauty tips you would like to pass on?
“Experiment with your looks and stay consistent and loyal to your skincare routine! And if you feel beautiful, why care about what others have to say?”
What does the rest of 2020 look like for you?
“Wow, it’s a pretty blessed year so far, despite the pandemic. I’ve got a few major campaigns coming up, another magazine cover for 2020 and starring in a few TV dramas/Telefilm. Really excited to see how all this transitions into 2021!”
